Long hair

In the Old Testament, Samson had long hair by which he gained his strength...
Just a little confused why he had long hair though with the above quote, wouldnt it be considered shameful ?

It isn't so much the length as the style.

It's an injunction about dressing your up like a woman, not having it long per se.
