Im not sure if it was 1054 AD, but when the schism occured the fact that Catholics changed the Nicene Creed " who proceeds from the father and the Son"... my orthodox friend said that Catholics changed it and it was wrong...and there creed says something different...
1- can i have an explanation to the change made?
2- when the change was made?
3- was this the reason for the great schism ?
4- who made the change?
Thankyou

Hi Tony,

The tract on the Eastern Orthodox Churches at Catholic Answers is very good. Here is a link (http://www.catholic.com/library/Eastern_Orthodoxy.asp).

I would very (VERY) strongly recommend a careful study of St. Thomas Aquinas' work on this area in the Summa Theologica.

Here are links to the articles in question:

http://www.newadvent.org/summa/1036.htm#article2

http://www.newadvent.org/summa/1036.htm#article3

The second of these articles is important, since the Eastern Orthodox as a whole insist that the procession of the Holy Spirit is "From the Father through the Son" but not "From the Father and the Son". It seems to be, from St. Thomas' teaching that this is a distinction without a difference.

Work hard to understand this yourself, don't just dump it on an Eastern Orthodox friend and expect him to do the hard work!
