my question is, is there something wrong with eucharistic ministers, they are so prominent now in almost every parish. my parish uses only male acolytes, which i have been brought up to believe okay, and that women should not be serving as acolytes.
why is it okay that an ordinary woman or man should be allowed to distribute the eucharist during mass??

Hi Simon,

The present discipline in the ordinary form of the Roman Rite allows for extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion to only be used where there will otherwise be an undue amount of time taken if the ordinary ministers (bishops, priests and deacons) alone distribute. (Acolytes are not ordinary ministers of Holy Communion).

Why don't we see this rule followed in even the "good" parishes? I'm afraid I can't answer that question.
