Malcolm Muggeridge spoke of the "great liberal death wish." In fact, if this life is all there is, then the future looks pretty bleak, so it's little wonder that those who have abandoned their hope in God should want to do all they can to keep this world's blessings to themselves.

Serious Christians see it differently. Their hope makes them look forward to the future which, like the present, is in God's hands. You see this in a simple example: the attitude to children.

If you have a larger family, you have to get used to complete strangers coming up to you to tell you "don't have any more", "you've got your hands full", "you're a glutton for punishment" or "Are these all yours? All the same father?"

When politicians speak of "sustainability" and "lifestyle" they mean that children are a blot on the landscape, intruders. That's why they want to burden larger families with unjust tax measures. Any such measures will effectively hit those people who regard children as blessings. That effectively means practicing Catholic families who reject a contraceptive lifestyle, and most muslims.

The Catholics who are accepting children are statistically not significant. The Muslims are. So any ETS tax or penalties on larger famliies - supposedly for "sustainability" - are effectively taxes on Muslims (and some Catholics).

Well put Anthony. The suggestion that the greatest prospect a society can have - children born into stable families - is a target of a government's policy is such a disgrace.
