The part bolded in red really ticked me off.

.........................................

A bill that would allow same-sex couples to adopt children in NSW has been passed by the lower house of parliament by only two votes.

Forty-six MPs voted for the historic bill while 44 voted against it on Thursday, following two days of debate.

The controversial bill, introduced by independent Sydney MP Clover Moore, allows same-sex couples to adopt a child together.

Gay couples can already adopt in the ACT and Western Australia.

Voting on the issue in NSW was always going to be close and the result initially looked unclear as a similar number of MPs filled each side of the parliamentary floor.

At the last minute, the doors were unlocked for dissenting MP and leader of the Nationals Andrew Stoner, late because of a problem with the lift.

As the result was called, a whoop and brief applause rang out and Ms Moore was hugged and congratulated by her fellow MPs.

Reintroducing the bill on Wednesday, Ms Moore included an amendment that gives church adoption agencies the right to refuse services to same-sex couples without breaching anti-discrimination laws.

She did this "against her strong belief" in the hope it would encourage more MPs to support the bill.

Premier Kristina Keneally, Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell and Mr Stoner had allowed the MPs a conscience vote on the contentious issue.

Ms Keneally and Mr O'Farrell both supported the bill, while Mr Stoner did not back it.

The issue split the Liberal Party and the Nationals with senior members of the coalition, including Greg Smith, voting against it.

Labor MPs were also divided with Noreen Hay and Virginia Judge among those opposed to the bill.

Those supporting the bill argued it would give recognition to the estimated 1300 children in NSW already being cared for by same-sex couples through foster care or the care of a partner's child.

The bill would not affect inter-country adoptions because none of the countries Australia has agreements with allows same-sex adoptions.

Nor is it likely to affect local adoptions, of which there were just 20 last year, they said.

Instead, the bill would most often apply to known adoptions, where a couple adopt a foster child, or a parent adopts the child of his or her partner.

Speaking to the lower house on Wednesday night, Ms Keneally said she had considered the Gospel, her observations of same-sex parents and her own experiences of parental love both as a child and a mother.

"In considering all of that, I must, in my conscience, support this legislation," she told parliament.

"In forming my position on this bill, I have considered my experiences as a mother, my responsibilities as a parliamentarian, and my conscience as a Christian and member of the Catholic faith."

Speaking on Thursday morning, Mr O'Farrell said he supported the bill but added the issue was not a matter of gay rights but of removing discrimination in the Adoption Act.

"I support this measure today ... for the sake of children, but also because I don't believe our society should exclude because of gender, sexuality, faith, background or some other factor, people who have a contribution they can make," he said.

Mr Stoner was the dissenting voice among the leaders, saying children needed to be raised in an environment where there was a father and a mother.

"As a father of six children I know that my children have benefited from having parents of both genders, male and female," he told parliament on Wednesday night.

Children's agencies Barnardo's, Benevolent Society charity and UnitingCare Burnside, one of the largest child and welfare agencies in NSW, were all in favour of the bill, which they said would boost foster carer numbers throughout the state.

Many faith-based organisations were against the bill, with 200 people protesting against it at a NSW Council of Churches public meeting in state parliament on Tuesday.

Christian Democratic Party leader the Reverend Fred Nile told the meeting the bill could deter women thinking of adopting out their child and "lead to the tragedy of abortion".

Further amendments to the bill will be put to a vote this afternoon before it is sent to the upper house.
Many people around us come from other faith traditions within the Christian context: Orthodox, Baptist, Anglican, Lutheran, Pentecostal, etc. How did these traditions arise and how do their beliefs and practices differ from those of the Catholic Church? This topic provides a unique opportunity to explore the beliefs of others with whom we come in contact in the classroom, at work or in everyday life.

Although his small stature and gentle voice don't betray it, Rev. Michael Rodriguez's strong words and fidelity to Catholic Church teaching against homosexuality have caused quite a stir.

In a column issued earlier this month entitled "Every Catholic Must Oppose Certain Things," Rodriguez laid out the simple proposition that "Every single Catholic, out of fidelity to charity and truth, has the absolute duty to oppose (1) the murder of unborn babies, and (2) any and all government attempts to legalize homosexual unions."

"Unfortunately, homosexual activists continue to avoid the real issues under the cover of these words ... equal rights, dignity ... The Church acknowledges all that, but there's still the real issue that, what is right and what is wrong? What are God's commandments? We like to talk a lot about rights: what is our duty to our fellow men, what is our duty to God, what do we have to do to be saved?"

The priest pointed to the Gospel story of the rich young man who approached Jesus as guidance for what questions should be asked. "It's a beautiful question ... he doesn't ask Jesus about what are my rights ... he asks the key question that all Catholics must ask themselves: he says, 'Teacher, what good must I do to gain eternal life?'" said Rodriguez.

I was in the middle of a full class, and my teacher was talking about studying. He said "I don't care what you think, I just care that you think!" (which is a good quote by the way) "What I hate is people who are ignorant that choose not to learn".

I said to him, "You're ignorant because you're an atheist...Should I hate you?"

Discussing theology online does nothing unless you actually use it in the real world. If you hear someone blaspheming.. let em have it! If you hear someone talking about your church.. correct them! Don't compromise when you're with your friends or colleagues because you're letting us all down.

Last Catholic adoption agency faces closure after Charity Commission ruling

The last remaining Roman Catholic adoption agency to resist Labour’s equality laws is facing closure, after the charity watchdog ruled that it could not avoid considering same-sex couples as potential parents.
......
But in a judgement published on Thursday, the quango has ruled that it will still not allow Catholic Care to restrict its services to heterosexuals only.
...
The ruling means that Catholic Care is likely to have to close its adoption service, as if it decided instead to consider same-sex couples as parents it would be going against Catholic teaching on the importance of children having a mother and father. This would mean the agency, which can trace its origins back to an orphanage set up in Leeds in 1863, would lose church funding.

I wondered if anyone had some thoughts on this scenario:

My husband went to confession on Saturday, August 7. The cofessional line from 11 am to 12 pm was continuous (I think because it was the First Saturday). My husband entered the line at about 11:35. At 12 pm there were still 4 people in line waiting to confess (my husband included). A layman preparing for the 12:10 Mass told the people that, "Father was not able to take any more confessions" and turned the people away. I assume this man had instructions to do so. However, if a soul is in a state of mortal sin and is there to receive absolution, but is then denied the sacrament, where does that leave that soul? I was truly bothered by this and thought there must be some other solution for overworked priests.
